Bruno Corry, Published in Home News & Tribune - Central Jersey on 05/08/2005 President Bush's latest press conference was one of denial and delusion. He wants to "fix" Social Security with privatization but has not come up with an answer to keep it solvent. Merely repeating the message that Social Security is in trouble does not make it fact. Why is he so interested in changing Social Security, when all our past presidents, Democrat and Republican, have always worked hard to keep Social Security intact?
Bush is blowing a billion of our tax dollars a week in Iraq, but he has the nerve to give tax cuts to the rich and wants to give away the safety net of Social Security to the roller coaster of Wall Street. He ignores polls that show Americans want Social Security left alone and instead gives them promises of ownership.
In Bush's economy, only the privileged seem to own more, while the working class and poor feel the stranglehold of corporations, which have the upper hand while Bush stays in power.
Bush's policies are not helping the economy, environment and job creation. After four years of this president, the stock market has gone nowhere and our national debt has skyrocketed. The economy remains flat and will continue to stay that way until we get a change of leadership that has the American people, and not corporations, as its priority.
