The writer of the Dec. 19 letter "Big stick does the trick" must suffer from DD disease: He loves to distort the facts while living in a fog of delusion.
Supposedly, President Bush's surge has converted downtown Baghdad into a prime vacation spot, and the reason for this success is that al-Qaida has been driven from Baghdad. I thought the reason for going into Iraq was to find WMDs and that the main opposition in Iraq is from insurgents. We found no WMDs, and my guess is that we will eventually have peace if every insurgent is killed off.
In a recent poll, Iraqis were asked what is the thing that they most agree on. The answer was that America get out of Iraq as soon as possible. This cost for the United States to stay in Iraq is not cheap. Two billion dollars a week is causing staggering debt and mortgaging the future of our country.
Some foresight? Every day, a new scandal pops up from the Bush administration as to how we were lied into this unnecessary war. Some integrity? The letter writer's "big stick" theory is typical of die-hard Republicans who are quickly losing credibility and are grasping for straws in order to justify the mess that Bush has made of our country.
