"The Middlesex County Department of Human Services conducted its annual 2011 Point-in-Time survey last Wednesday in an effort to document the number of people without homes in the county.

"From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at two locations — Elijah's Promise Soup Kitchen in New Brunswick and the Salvation Army in Perth Amboy — volunteers from across the state surveyed homeless persons who are marginally housed, living on the street or in emergency and transitional housing programs.

"Coinciding with the count, Project Homeless Connect provided direct relief to those experiencing homelessness at these locations with housing, health and case management services, said Bridget Kennedy, director of the Division of Social Work Services of Middlesex County Department of Human Services."
