Friday, August 29, 2008 3:38 PM EDT In the classic film “12 Angry Men,” there’s a scene where the juror played by Ed Begley Sr. launches into a racist diatribe in the jury room. He argues that the defendant on trial must be guilty because he’s Hispanic. One by one, the other jurors turn their backs to Begley’s character, ignoring the fallacy of his bigotry. Like Ed Begley’s character in “12 Angry Men,” Jerome Corsi — author of the anti-Barack Obama hatchet job “The Obama Nation” — hopes to use racism and bigotry to bring down a man of color. Mr. Corsi tries to use Sen. Obama’s ethnicity to “prove” unsubstantiated claims about the senator’s religious background, claims that have been debunked a long time ago. Anyone willing to believe the bogus allegations in “The Obama Nation” should also be aware that Jerome Corsi has a history of making bigoted statements about Catholics and Muslims alike.
I hope American voters will emulate the jurors in “12 Angry Men” and turn a deaf ear to the bigotry of Jeromi Corsi and his smear campaign against Barack Obama.
