Drill, drill, drill! That's the new right-wing mantra. Republicans blame Barack Obama and the Democrats for the oil shortages, yet they mention nothing about George Bush's do-nothing energy policy of the last eight years.
Instead of immediately raising vehicle gas-efficiency standards when he got into office, Bush gave tax credits to owners of SUVs who use them in their personal businesses.
The real solution was evident in the past few weeks. The price of oil dropped because people were driving less. Just think how gas prices would drop if people dumped their SUVs and switched to fuel-efficient hybrids and demanded renewable energy sources instead of oil.
I don't want to see our shores and environment mucked up just to appease the greedy and the uninformed. The current oil crisis is an opportunity to start to implement energy conservation and innovation. This is something that the Republicans, McCain and incompetent Bush will never understand.
