http://www.nj.com/opinion/ledger/forums/index.ssf?/base/news-2/121359095016890.xml&coll=1 Marty Friedman's letter comparing George Bush to Abraham Lincoln, while well-intentioned, misses one rather large point. Lincoln's actions during the Civil War brought the United States back together, while Bush's prosecution of the Iraq war has torn our nation apart. The Civil War was thrust upon Lincoln; several Southern states had already se ceded by the time Lincoln took office, and the South fired the first shots of the war (on Fort Sumter). By marked contrast, the United States was not headed toward any sort of war with Iraq until Bush's administration fabricated reasons for the invasion. Historical comparisons fail when crucial facts are ignored. -- Eddie Konczal, Monroe Township
