Wednesday, December 12, 2007 When winners of the Nobel Peace Prize were announced, a flurry of media attention focused on the recipients: Al Gore and the scientists from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. With the perspective of the past months, it is apparent that this focus on personalities meant that a central message of the Nobel Committee's se lection got lost in the shuffle. Beyond calling attention to Gore and the panel, the Nobel Committee took great care to explain the connection between climate change and issues of global peace and security... The committee said, in effect, that climate change is not just an environmental issue; it is security issue. On this point, we believe the committee got it right. http://www.nj.com/starledger/stories/index.ssf?/base/news-1/1197439140201690.xml&coll=1
