To the Times:
Re: “Bush advised to stay the course,” (Sept. 5). I recall Bush’s address to the nation on June 26, 2005, when from Fort Bragg he said, “We have a clear path forward. As the Iraqis stand up, we will stand down.”
To date more than 77,000 Iraqi civilians are reported dead (Iraq Body Count: http://www.iraqbodycount.org/) and more than 3,752 U.S fatalities (report from the Department of Defense (http://icasualties.org/oif/)
Who is standing up? A lone George W. Bush, lying to the nation and to the world.
Thank you for running photos of anti-war protesters in Sydney during Bush’s visit to one of his few allies, Prime Minister John Howard. The protesters holding posters that read “Wanted For War Crimes” above Bush and Howard’s faces are among the millions in America and in the world who should make the front pages of the newspapers. I join them in demanding justice and at the end it is us who will stay the course.
