Recently, Rep. Donald Payne (D-10th Dist.) co-sponsored House Resolution 333, "Articles of Impeachment Relating to Vice President Richard B. Cheney," introduced in the House by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio). This resolution seeks to hold the vice president accountable for false claims he made about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction claims that led to our disastrous occupation of Iraq.
In so doing, Payne followed in the footsteps of another representative from Newark, the late Peter Rodino, whose leadership of the House Judiciary Committee dur ing the Watergate scandal helped bring about the resignation of President Richard Nixon.
I have repeatedly written to my own representative, Rush Holt (D-12th), asking him to support HR333. I hope Holt and the rest of New Jersey's representatives will find the courage possessed by Payne and Rodino and show the same leadership in pursuing accountability for abuses of power. |
