We visited your staff today with an urgent request:  please co-sponsor H Res 333, Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Richard B. Cheney, presented by Rep Dennis Kucinich on April 24, 2007.  We continue to urge you to meet with us personally about this effort.

We presented six major reasons why you must do this:

1. IT’S A WINNING STRATEGY!  Recent polls show that 54% of the general public want Cheney impeached; 76% of Democrats want it, so it will UNIFY Democrats.  Historically, parties that pursue impeachment prospered in the next election, even after Clinton’s impeachment.  Your recent Town Hall on Iraq demonstrated local support in District 7 for impeachment.  Please know that the people who worked hardest to put you in office will consider you a superhero if you co-spo nsor this legislation.  You will super-activate your base.  Consider the alternative!
2. IT’S THE
   BEST WAY
   TO BEGIN RE-DEPLOYMENT!  Impeachment hearings will focus debate on the war, and the resulting media attention will build support to begin redeployment.  Impeachment hearings convinced Nixon not to veto the cut-off in Vietnam War funding.  Without impeachment, the danger of escalating the war to IRAN is huge.  Even if Congress cuts funds for Iraq, Bush will find a way to keep it going.
3. IT WILL BE ACCOMPLISHED QUICKLY!  Cheney could be impeached in a day.  Evidence is overwhelming and already documented.  In any case, Nixon’s impeachment process was three months; Clinton’s was four months.  Remember, impeachment is the INDICTMENT only, accomplished by a majority vote of the House, which has a Democratic majority.  Impeachment can be done!  Even without removal, it’s significant.
4. IT’S A REMEDY FOR THE TRAUMA OF THE NATION!  Remember how EMPOWERING it was to see Nixon resign during the impeachment process?  Impeachment will actually ENABLE progressive legislation.  Saving our constitution and Bill of Rights is more important than any other progressive legislation, which will be vetoed or signed away anyway. 
5. IT’S THE CONSTITUTIONAL THING TO DO!  The constitution mandates the removal of offenders, by impeachment and trial.    Mr. Cheney’s abuse of power is without question.   Impeachment denies future presidents the precedent of usurping powers not theirs and the power to mislead us into similar tragic misadventures.  You have taken an oath to defend the constitution against enemies foreign AND DOMESTIC. 
6. IT ‘S THE INTERNATIONAL POLITICAL REALITY.  To reclaim our standing in the world, we must repudiate this Administration, which is universally despised.
