I am amazed by the bitter letters about U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., and Gov. Jon S. Corzine that have appeared in the Home News Tribune. The Republican supporters should ask themselves whether their candidates offered anything positive. Both Douglas Forrester, who lost the governor's race to Corzine, and Tom Kean Jr., who was defeated this month by Menendez, ran campaigns that were chock full of negative attacks. These candidates rarely stated their opinion on issues that concern New Jersey voters. When they did, it was often contradictory.
Both Menendez and Corzine were elected on their records and policies. My suggestion to the Republicans is to stop the character assassinations and work on an agenda that will help the people of New Jersey.
