When Jon Corzine became governor and named Bob Menendez to replace him in the Senate, I was initially concerned. Could Menendez effectively fill Corzine's shoes and hold onto the Senate seat in this year's election? Less than a year later, I'm happy to say Menendez has dispelled my concerns and exceeded all expectations.

Menendez has compiled an impressive record since joining the Senate. He led the opposition to the Bush administration's unsuccessful plan to allow a Dubai-owned company to control several eastern seaports.

He introduced legislation to give seniors more time to enroll in prescription drug plans without incurring a penalty. Menendez successfully obtained funding for a UN task force to curtail the genocide in Darfur, Sudan. And on environmental issues, Menendez's record is unparalleled. Menendez introduced legislation to promote renewable energy, voted to prevent oil drilling in sensitive areas such as New Jersey's coastlines and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and consistently voted in favor of bills to protect the safety and welfare of animals.

On the issues that matter, New Jerseyans can count on Bob Menendez to do the right thing. That's why I enthusiastically support his re-election and look forward to voting for him on Election Day.
