A common tactic used by those in denial about the global warming crisis is to "shoot the messenger." They can't win an argument based on the facts or science, so they attempt to cast doubt on the integrity of those who are telling them what they don't want to hear.
Global warming deniers argue that the climatologists reporting this crisis are being paid off by liberals to advance their agenda. But the skeptics have the causality backward: Liberals are not influencing scientific reports, but these reports are indeed spurring liberals -- and others concerned about global warming, including Republicans such as Sen. John McCain and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, and even many evangelical groups -- to take action to mitigate the damaging effects of worldwide climate change. Liberals and environmentalists should not be criticized for heeding the facts and responding to science. The facts are all we can rely on, and they're telling us that everyone is in big trouble if we don't address the global warming crisis soon.
