American troops have been in Iraq for nearly five years. The unjustified invasion of Iraq, begun in March 2003, has dragged on with no end in sight. Sadly, American casualties continue to mount: nearly 4000 dead and tens of thousands seriously wounded. United for Peace and Justice is calling for and supporting a set of activities on and around the 5th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq that will manifest the intensifying opposition to the war. You can help: write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper, calling for an end to our involvement in Iraq, and supporting the events taking place to mark the 5th anniversary of the war. |

It has long been obvious that President Bush and Vice-President Cheney misled Congress, the American people, and the international community in rushing into an unjustified war with Iraq. Bush claimed that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction and posed an immediate threat to the United States. He and his administration also insinuated that Iraq was in some way linked to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. These claims were all proven to be untrue. The Downing Street memos confirmed that the Bush administration "fixed the intelligence" in order to justify going to war with Iraq. |
